What every 605 S-series baler brings to fields

Knowing how to choose the best hay baler for your operation means more than picking the model with the longest feature list. The right machine is the one that matches how you work — the size of your operation, the weight of your windrows, the technology you want and the protection you need to keep baling when conditions get tough.

Before breaking down each member of the 605 S-series lineup, let’s start with the common ground all four balers share.

Every model in the lineup runs the Atlas Pro™ control system — a 7.1-in (18-cm) color touch-screen monitor that tracks real-time moisture, bale count and bales per hour across up to 50 fields. Density, bale shape and netwrap count are all adjustable from the cab. Bale shape indicators use belt tension sensors to show whether the bale is building evenly across the chamber before it leaves the machine. Moisture sensors in the bale chamber deliver real-time and field-average moisture data so operators know if conditions are right to keep baling.

Less stopping. And no guessing.

Every model also runs a rotor — a driveshaft with fins that disperses crop evenly across the full width of the bale chamber before it ever starts forming into a bale. Better bale shape. Consistent outer-edge density. Heavier bales that hold their shape in storage and shed moisture better. That matters whether the operation runs 500 bales a season or 5,000. 

Every model comes with heavy-duty belts, rubber-mounted pickup teeth, a dual spiral spreader bar for edge-to-edge net coverage, a hydraulic bale ramp that protects the tailgate during ejection, improved triple-lip bearings on every roller bearing in the baler, flotation tires, in-cab density adjustments, moisture-sensing and bale shape indicators. Standard. Across the board.  

What separates the four models is where each one goes from here. 

605S Rancher baler: Straightforward. Dependable. Works with what you have. 

Best for: Small to midsize ranches. Operators who want no-nonsense baling with the tractor already on the farm. 

The 605S Rancher baler is built for the producer who needs a reliable baler that doesn’t ask more of the operation than the operation can give. It runs on a minimum of 75 PTO hp (55.9 kW) with 100 hp (74.6 kW) recommended — which means the tractor already working for you likely works for this machine. 

The Rancher uses a 4-bar camless wide pickup — a solid reel design with one rotational bearing on each end and 56 rubber-mounted pickup teeth. Fewer wear points. Simpler service. The poly riser stripper bands keep crop stripping cleanly and resist wrapping, so the machine keeps moving instead of stopping to clear a mess. Vermeer backs it with a 3-year pickup warranty on internal components including parts and labor. 

Auto-Eject is standard. The overfill sensor detects maximum bale size and automatically ties to protect internal components. Auto Lube — the electronically controlled greasing system that automatically lubricates nine high-load bearings on a set interval — is available as an option, along with scales and a net lift system. 

The 605S Rancher is the machine for the producer who wants reliability, low operating costs and a baler that works just as well on the second cutting as it did on the first — season after season. 

605S Signature baler: More capacity. More visibility. Ready to work harder. 

Best for: Growing operations running heavier windrows, higher bale volumes or demanding more out of every cutting. 

The 605S Signature baler symbolizes serious productivity. The jump from the Rancher is felt immediately in the field: a cammed wide pickup that actively controls when tines engage and release crop as it moves from the pickup into the baler. In heavy or variable windrows, that translates to smoother intake, more consistent feeding and fewer situations where the operator must slow down and manage crop flow manually. 

Add increased belt speed for faster cycling and the Signature is purpose-built for operators who need to work instead of wait. 

ISOBUS capability is standard, allowing operators to run the baler through a compatible tractor display if preferred. Optional features such as Auto Lube, scales and auto eject can help tailor the machine to specific baling operations. The Atlas Pro system provides real-time machine data, in-cab adjustments and bale shape monitoring to help operators stay productive throughout the day.

The 605S Signature is the right call for the producer who needs a baler that can match their pace from sunrise to sunset.

605S Premium baler: Built for operators who think about uptime 

Best for: High-volume producers, custom balers or anyone whose operation can’t afford unplanned downtime. 

The 605S Premium baler is the most fully equipped machine in the lineup, and every additional feature on it is aimed at protecting your time and bottom line. 

The TempSense™ bearing monitoring system uses wireless sensors to monitor 16 high-stress bearings in real time. It alerts the operator in the cab when bearing temperatures exceed preset ranges, providing an early warning of potential bearing problems. For operators baling long days in demanding conditions, TempSense helps keep baler health visible. 

Slip-sensing monitors for decreased baler speed and alerts the operator when it’s detected. That means catching potential plugs before they become full stops — before the downtime, the unplugging, the lost momentum. Detect it early, adjust and keep moving. 

Auto Lube helps shorten the routine greasing process by automatically delivering lubrication to nine high-load bearings at predetermined intervals. Other grease points still require manual lubrication according to the operator’s manual. 

LED maintenance lights — on each door and on the netwrap hood — make after-dark service faster and safer when the baling day runs long. 

Auto-Eject is standard, handling the entire tailgate sequence automatically so the operator stays focused on driving and the next windrow. Scales and a powered windguard are both available as options on the Premium, giving the operator flexibility to spec the machine to the job. 

The 605S Premium is the baler for the producer who knows downtime is the most expensive thing on a hay operation. 

605S Cornstalk Special baler: When the crop is rough, this is your solution 

Best for: Operators baling cornstalks, abrasive residue or any crop that tears up less durable equipment. 

Cornstalks are hard on balers. Hard on pickups. Hard on belts and bearings and every component that touches the crop. The 605S Cornstalk Special baler is engineered with that reality in mind. 

The powered windguard — optional on the Signature and Premium, standard on the Cornstalk Special — improves feeding intake when baling tough, abrasive material. It’s there because it needs to be.  

The TempSense bearing monitoring system is also standard, helping operators keep an eye on high-stress bearings when working in demanding crop conditions. Slip-sensing helps catch plugs before they form. Auto Lube handles automatic lubrication on a set schedule. Net lift is standard so the operator isn’t wrestling heavy netwrap rolls after a punishing day. 

Scales are standard on the Cornstalk Special — three load cells that automatically weigh each bale through the Atlas Pro control system. Bale weight data helps make smarter hauling and feeding decisions without stopping to guess. 

The 605S Cornstalk Special doesn’t survive the conditions. It dominates them.
